At Nanhall Pet Spa, for those that want to learn to trim their pet. Nanhall offers Private Grooming Lessons with Owners.

What is the ART OF GROOMING?

Many pet owners confuse grooming with "clipping". Not all pets are clipped, but all pets need to be bathed, brushed, have their ears cleaned and their nails trimmed. Long coated and undercoated pets need regular brushing and combing from the skin out to prevent their fur from matting. Matted fur not only causes a pet unnecessary discomfort, but can also lead to serious skin problems. All pets need regular brushing for proper circulation - helping hair growth and skin health.

WHY GO TO A PROFESSIONAL GROOMER?

A professional from Nanhall will do more than keep a pet looking its best. Our Groomers are also trained observers and can serve as front-line guardians of health. Very often, they spot potential problems that can affect a pet's physical condition enabling owners to seek treatment before problems get serious. Because our groomers literally go over pets from nose to tail, they can find anything from a loose tooth to a thorn embedded in a paw. Because they brush and comb pets right down to the skin, they are able to see parasites and skin problems. Because they clean and check ears, groomers can often stop an infection before it progresses. Professional groomers are as concerned with the general health and well-being of pets as they are with their appearance.

HOW OFTEN DOES A PET NEED GROOMING?

Grooming frequency varies depending on the breed of pet and the coat style. Breeds such as Poodles, Terriers, Spaniels, and many mixed breeds need frequent clipping & grooming to keep the coat and skin healthy. Breeds that do not require clipping still need an occasional grooming. How often a person has their pet groomed depends upon how much time they are able to spend maintaining its coat. Most of what a groomer can or cannot do depends on what the owners do between groomings. A pet with a coat that is badly matted due to infrequent brushing and inadequate care will usually have to be clipped down or shaved rather than brushed out.

HOW MUCH IS THIS GOING TO COST ME?

The cost of having a pet groomed depends on several things... what kind of pet, what condition its coat is in, and how much time it takes to groom a certain breed. Obviously, it cost more to get a St. Bernard groomed than a Toy Poodle groomed. A basic price is set for every breed including mixed breeds. The basic price is determined by the amount of time it takes to groom a certain breed when that pet is in reasonably good condition. The price will increase if the pet's coat is matted. The greater the degree of matting, the greater the price, simply because of the amount of time that must be spent on a pet in bad condition. An extra fee is charged if you want your pet to have a flea bath or dip, a medicated bath or if your pet bites.

WHAT DOES A GROOMER PROVIDE?

Obviously, a clean, well-groomed pet - that is the groomer's job. However, it is also a groomer's job to take the time to care for problems they find on the pet. Very often pets with badly matted fur have skin infections and sores, which need to be cleaned and treated. Badly infected ears need careful attention and cleaning. Pets with excessive eye drainage need special care to remove the build-up of material from the corners of the eye and occasionally from the eye itself. Sometimes groomers notice cuts or sores that the owners may be unaware of, these are cleaned and treated as part of the groomer's service. Quite often, fleas, ticks, or other parasites are found and treated as well. On the lighter side, a groomer also removes bubble gum, burrs, paint, candy, oil, tar and anything else a pet manages to get into at least once in its life. Therefore, a professional groomer is someone who pays special attention to your pet, as well as providing a good groom job. Nanhall provides your pet with the ultimate spa experience and the services available are geared toward not only enhancing the beauty of your pet or show dog, but focus as well on ensuring their continued health and vitality.
